I began to take myself seriously as an artist when I retired from nursing. I had always used my artistic talents in my home, the schools, and the local community, but now it was time to put my art on a full-time schedule. I took many classes in the Portland area, including Portland Community College, Multnomah Art Center, and Hip Bone Gallery. I participated in workshops both in the area and abroad, as well as private lessons from local artists. I am now a member of the Art Pack, a critique group that helps me to grow and improve my art. I have a faithful following of collectors who look forward to seeing my latest paintings and my progress as an artist. Art is the main focus in my life. My goal, since I first began painting, has been to master the elements of color, harmony, and design. Watercolor seems to come forward as the medium that allows me to best express myself. It is a challenging medium that seems to have a mind of its own, which I find to be its most exciting quality. I am drawn to city life and find satisfaction in painting the scenes of Portland. The esplanade has inspired an entire body of work. It provides endless possibilities of scenes to paint and share. |
